description: in 2018 during the month of November, we held our first farmer's market, which was met by high levels of engagement. the farmer's market also served as a resource fair, connecting students to resources already available in their communities (i.e. Health centers and mental health services). this year, we are in the process of expanding these events into flea markets that provide students with clothing and art. we have been fortunate enough to be partnered up withAmerican heart association teaching gardens and fruitstitute. we plan to supplement donations with other sponsors (i.e. heritage farmers market and imperfect produce). in addition to a farmers market, we will distribute seedlings and trees for adoption. we plan to continue bringing in these resources throughout the year for students! in addition to farmers markets, we decided to start a clothing recycling program called "Up cycling." students and faculty at our school are able to donate clothing. chicas verdes is able to take the clothes and up cycle them which is better for our environment and community. we thought about this idea because we came to realize that many students do not have the financial stability to buy clothes all the time.
purpose: to spread environmental awareness and agency in our community and bring food access to students and their families.
